Dr.
G. Edna Howard, retired Professor and Chair of the Education Department (1996)
has written a book, The Covenant of Love and The House That Love Built,
which has been published by xulon Press. The book explores the building
of man's spiritual house and the similarities and differences in the rebuilding
of Howard's home in Belfast, which was purchased after their move to Houghton.
The emphasis centers on the concept of "building" and "rebuilding," which
implies a variety of opportunities for participation in God's Presence with
God's Covenant of Love as the overwhelming reality of all He provided even
before His creation was brought into existence. The "rebuilding" of the 1887
Belfast home brought to reality The House That Love Built for the
Howards. The book emphasizes that love, to be of value, must be known by its
outcome and evidenced by what it produces. The Covenant of Love,
which portrays the eternality of God's love, and The House That Love
Built, which portrays love in the restoration process, provide evidence
of this as a reality.

The book can be
purchased through the Houghton College Book Store, or directly from Dr. G. Edna
Howard, 40 Angel Street, Belfast NY 14711 (e-mail:

When Dale and Edna
Howard and the realtor tried to open the front door of the house on Angel
Street, the sagging foundation prevented them from entering; here are some
before and after pictures:

For the front porch, "someone had envisioned a good thing but..."

Previous resident's attempt to make a terraced patio

"digging the remainder of the cellar...by wheelbarrow."
