Empowered by God’s love and the Holy Spirit, the Houghton Wesleyan Church Youth Group exists to draw teenagers into a life-long, transforming relationship with Jesus Christ and his followers by:
At HWC we believe that our students are not the future of the church, rather, they ARE the church… each individual is a critically necessary component of what God has called Houghton Wesleyan Church to do and be in this time and place.
High School Ministries (HSM), grades 9-12, meet on Sunday evenings at 6pm, Middle School Ministries (MSM) 7-8th grades, meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm. These two gatherings include typical youth-group type games, worship, scripture reading and prayer. In each session we seek to address issues that teens face from a biblical perspective.
Tuesday morning prayer breakfast meets in the community room at 7am before school. In this early morning moment, we eat pancakes and sausage, sing hymns, and spend some time in prayer before our creator.
On Sunday mornings, small groups that are age and gender specific, meet for Sunday school classes to hear and discuss God’s word. In all of our get-togethers we seek to answer the question, “How does what I am learning about God’s word actually get lived out in my daily life?”
In addition to weekly gatherings there are several events interspersed throughout the year. These events can be outreach oriented, service oriented, or even designed to foster fellowship. Whatever their purpose, they are always FUN!! Movie nights, conferences, district winter retreat, 30 Hour Famine, and missions trips are just some of the ways that we spend time together.
